Collagen injections were approved by the FDA in 1981. They have proven to be a very popular nonsurgical cosmetic procedure. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) maintains that Botox injections for aesthetic purposes appear to be safe and effective. Patients who show early signs of aging, as well as, those who may not be suitable candidates for more extensive aesthetic facial surgery, may be good candidates for this procedure. Hyaluronic acid is a natural, versatile soft product used as a tissue filler. Restylane and Restylane Perlane is an ideal predictable safe tissue filler that is being widely used for wrinkles, fine lines, contour deformities, volumizers in the face, cheeks, and lips associated with aging, developmental anomalies, and certain diseases.

Both procedures are preformed when the patient is in the office. The treatment area is treated with topical anesthetic to help the patient’s discomfort, although a nerve block is sometimes preferred by some patients. Hyaluronic acid is a hydrophilic agent, it attracts water like a sponge. Results usually last up to six months but it depends on the patient. They are frequently used inconjunction to correct lines and creases that persist. Offering injectables in a medical practice can increase revenue by $150,000 to $200,000. A nurse injector can support a medical practice (family practictioners, OBGYN’s, Sports Medicine, etc.) by injectable procedures and contributing to cross selling their patients to other anti-aging laser procedures.
